Barn Raising is thought of as uniquely Amish but it turns out people in the frontier communities of early America helped each other out by building barns for their neighbors. According to Wikipedia, "Barn Raising" which became rare by the close of the 19th century, involved a community coming together to construct a barn for one or more households. Mennonite and Amish communities carried on the tradition to modern times.
While I was writing a website tutorial for CSSBakery, a site that focuses on Cascading Style Sheets, I thought people who are interested in coding their sites would benefit from different types of templates explained in detail, taking the mystery out of the process. Putting up sites block by block made me think of the barn raising events of the Amish and thus the idea and the name for Website Raising was born. I will be be posting tutorials of varying difficulties from beginner to advanced so everyone can find something useful.
